Law and Economics has reached a substantial development during the last years, leading to an increasing level of sophistication of legal studies and major scientific requirements by both defendants and plaintiffs. The thesis of this paper is that this evolution will require the use of statistical and econometric tools. After pointing to the existing statistical and mathematical illiteracy in justice - a fact that transcends our country - the author illustrates econometric theory as applied to practical cases in the justice of the United States through footnotes.
